How a fire job usually goes

Every fire is different, but the order stays steady.

  1. Make the structure safe to enter — board-up, temporary weather protection, and a clear path through damaged areas.
  2. Remove standing water left from firefighting so secondary damage does not keep spreading into floors and walls.
  3. Remove unsalvageable materials and pack out what can be cleaned off-site when that helps the job move.
  4. Clean soot and smoke residue from surfaces that can be saved. Walls, ceilings, contents, and HVAC paths get handled based on how the smoke traveled.
  5. Address lingering smoke odor with cleaning plus antimicrobial and deodorizer where the system and surfaces need it — not a perfume spray that covers the smell for a day.
  6. Document the work with notes and photos so you and your adjuster can follow what was wet, what was removed, and what was cleaned.
